Black Cherry

Heartwood of a black cherry tree is a light pinkish brown when freshly cut, darkening to a rich slightly reddish golden brown with time and exposure to light and oxygen. It has a fine texture with close grain. The grain is usually straight with the exception of figured pieces with curly grain patterns. Seen here in its lighter stage, the aging/darkening process can be accelerated by exposing the wood to direct sunlight.
