Hard MAPLE

Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of hard maple is more commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown and is generally discarded. Its grain is fairly straight with subtle cathedrals and has a fine, even texture. As the name implies, hard maple is incredibly dense making it a great material for dining tables as it will resist nicks and dents very well. It is sometimes referred to as sugar maple and is the species from which maple syrup is extracted.
