Flat Sawn Sapele

A member of the mahogany family its heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown and tends to darken with age. Flatsawn sapele shown here has a wide variety of grain patterns from straight to open cathedrals often containing random flecks of curl. Quartersawn, also known as ribbon sapele has a very straight grain pattern resembling wide ribbons traversing the length of the boards. Sapele has an iridescent quality which can make it look as though its glimmering or sparkling with shine.
