Wenge

Wenge is a very dark brown wood with black streaks. Upon application of a wood finish (particularly an oil-finish) the wood can become nearly black. Its grain is straight with meandering cathedrals and has a very coarse texture. Wenge has a low natural satin luster and is extremely hard. It was a popular choice of the midcentury modern master designers of the 1950’s and 60’s as their upscale option particularly used for chairs and desks.
