RIBBON SAPELE

Sapele is an African hardwood closely related to the mahogany family which gets its name from the city of Sapele in Nigeria, where there is a preponderance of the tree. When quarter sawn it reveals a ribbon pattern with a lustrous iridescent quality. Its heartwood is a golden to dark reddish brown with color that tends to darken with age. Sapele is often used in luxury boat building.
